In Praise of the PSL

I quit Starbucks. Yep. I did it. Here’s why -

That’s a Delonghi Magnifica 3400 Super Automatic Espresso Machine and it’s changed my life. Alright, maybe it’s not that dramatic, but it has changed one of my habits.

My sister got one of these for her birthay this year and it is absolutely wonderful. I’ve said before that eventually I’d like to get an espresso machine instead of hitting the drive through every morning. The lattes my sister has made for me using this bad boy have changed that “eventually” to “immediately.”  So I made a deal with my husband.

I’ll quit Starbucks and save the money I would normally spend there for a Magnifica.

I’ve been doing really good too. I haven’t boycotted the store or anything like that. I’ll still buy a vanilla latte from time to time (specifically the time at our weekly early Sunday morning post rehearsal band hang at the location near church). But I will no longer include a trip to the drive through as part of my normal daily routine. This is probably a good thing on many levels….particularly my waistline level.

Today, however, I needed to go to our local Starbucks to get some more coffee beans for home. I was planning to get a cappucino for J and a pound of breakfast blend. That’s all. Well, that’s not quite what happened.

Today is September 1. Do you know what that means? Starbucks has brought back the first of their Fall drinks and it happens to be my favorite. I enjoyed it so much that I wrote a little poem…

It’s hot today and smokey
But I feel okey dokey-
I stopped at Bux to get some beans,
But what I found, oh what a dream!
This special treat arrives each Fall
It is my favorite treat of all
It’s yummy
It’s cozy
It’s a delight to my nosey
It’s sweet
It’s spicy
It can be cool and icy
It’s Pumpkin Spice and boy is it nice
It’s the very best treat, to be precise.

I know, I’m a big nerd.
